AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A legal ruling came down Thursday that clears four Amarillo city commissioners. It says they did nothing wrong by supporting a political candidate earlier this year.

Local attorney J.E. Sauseda asked for a legal opinion in March. He wanted to know if Madison Scott, Ron Boyd, Brian Eades, and Jim Simms violated the Open Meetings Act. They all endorsed Four Price in the Republican primary for State House District 87.

Local DA Randall Sims has received the opinion for the Bexar County DA's office. Part of it states the endorsement "does not involve public business over which the Amarillo city commissioners have supervision of control." It concludes that "any collaborative effort to write or circulate their endorsement letter for publication falls within the social exception of the Open Meeting Act, and is not prohibited conduct under the act."
