CANYON, TEXAS -- The Iron Soldiers, a group that pays tribute to fallen military heroes, made a special presentation for the family of one Panhandle man who lost his life protecting our country back in May.
The Iron Soldiers want to continue to honor families who've lost loved ones in war in front of large crowds. To let the Panhandle know how much these families sacrifice for our freedom.
Sunday night, in front of the audience gathered for the musical drama Texas at Palo Duro Canyon they reached out to the family of Esau Gonzales.
It was emotional as a standing ovation erupted as Esau's mother and father walked onto the stage. The Iron Soldiers gave them both crystal plaques in memory of Esau to show the appreciation of how much his sacrifice meant to them.
Both of Esau's parents are proud of him, and say they're touched to receive such an award.
"I'm very proud of him, he gave his all he always did it for America. We're very proud to have them honor us in this way in the memory of my son and all those who have served."
Archie Sharp from the Iron Soldiers says keeping these soldiers memories alive is what this group is all about. And it has been an honor getting to know the parents of Esau Gonzales.
