CLOVIS, N.M. -- Curry County Commissioners have approved the use of an ankle monitoring contract to help save the county some money.
The Clovis News Journal reports that the program has the potential to save the county more than $45 a day per inmate. Currently, inmates who are employed or in school are considered for the program. But Curry County Detention Center Administrator Keith Norwood says the policies for the program need to be modified, and are too restrictive in some ways. He wants to find a way to offer work opportunities within the county to qualified inmates so more inmates can participate.
Norwood also said he has two employees assigned to work the program and just hired another person with experience in ankle bracelet programs.
When the policy is completed it will be brought to commissioners for approval.
