BORGER, TEXAS -- Groundbreaking for Borger's new Golden Plains Hospital took place Wednesday right beside the campus of Frank Phillips University.
City leaders and hospital board members turned over soil at what will become the OB-GYN wing of the 25 bed full-service hospital.
The 20 acre, $28.5 million facility will provide state of the art medical care to the citizens of Borger and surrounding areas, according to CEO, Dennis Jack.
"So, a hospital like this is essential to keep everyone alive as long as they can and more and more we can provide a lot of health care that the community needs because of the technology that's coming out. I mean, it's remarkable what small rural hospitals can do now."
Construction gets underway next month and is expected to take about a year.
