PORTALES, N.M. -- Authorities in Roosevelt County released a statement saying that 44-year-old Kenneth Glasscock died Tuesday around 5:00 p.m. from a single gunshot wound to the head, that's according to the Portales News Tribune.

Last Wednesday night police were called to the 500 block of Avenue D in Portales on a report of a gunshot victim. Police say the shooting stemmed from a fight between Glasscock and another man.

Glasscock was carrying an undisclosed weapon police said. When the other man's wife came out of the house with a gun a tried to break up the fight. Police said that Glasscock turned "as if to attack her," that's when the gun was taken and Glasscock was shot.

The shooter has been identified, police said, but they are not releasing his name or any other details until forensic results are determined, and police speak with the district attorney's office.
