AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Two suspects are in custody accused of stealing copper wiring from Xcel Energy.
Thursday morning a witness reported seeing a truck dragging a large amount of heavy gauge wire on Webb Road. The witness followed the suspects and was able to give Potter County Sheriff's deputies information to locate the suspects. When the deputies located the truck it was traveling at a high rate of speed on County Road B in Carson County. The deputy pursued the vehicle and made a traffic stop in the area of County Road 14 in Carson County. The two were arrested and charged with theft. More charges could still be filed.
A large amount of copper wire was recovered from locations in Potter County and Carson County.
Xcel Energy reports the recent copper thefts and damages at about $28,000.
