ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) - Rep. Dennis Kintigh has been sworn in as interim police chief in Roswell.

Kintigh, R-Roswell, is a retired FBI agent who was elected to the Legislature in 2008 and is seeking re-election this fall.

He took the oath during a brief ceremony on Thursday and will oversee the Roswell Police Department until lawmakers meet in January.

Kintigh says he is honored to serve as interim chief. He says he will be accountable to the department and Roswell citizens.

Rob Smith resigned as police chief earlier this month.
