AMARILLO, TEXAS -- As you probably know, tax free shopping is underway! Friday, Governor Rick Perry made a stop in Amarillo to encourage everyone to take advantage of it. But the governor also talked about the projected $18 billion budget deficit when the legislation convenes in January. Governor Perry says as with any state right now, they are having to cut back in areas because of the recession. He says the state is going to have to reduce spending in some areas, but is going to do that by prioritizing what's important to Texans and that's job creation.
"Having a good job is our main focus and the best way for us to do that is to allow for a tax structure in the state that has the lightest touch on people as it can on regulatory private that's public schools so when businesses need to expand the state or people move into the state they know there's going to be a skilled work force.", says Governor Rick Perry.
Meantime in Austin this week. The House State Affairs Committee has been hearing testimony on how much Texas is spending on illegal immigrant care. The figure exceeds $250 million.
