AMARILLO, TEXAS -- In the early morning hours Tuesday, more than 3,000 Xcel Energy customers lost power in Amarillo.

Xcel spokesman Wes Reeves says that outage was due to the wet weather Monday night. It caused some arcing at a substation near Market Street United on Georgia. Some moisture on a dirty insulator started to conduct power onto some other equipment. That outage, affected 3,592 between 2:55 a.m. and 3:39 a.m.

Crews were able to reroute some of the affected customers within about 45 minutes, but some were without power for a little longer.

Reeves says Xcel will be doing some maintenance at the substation to reduce this type of occurrence.
