backpack given to Lakeview students
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Tuesday, was Christmas in August for some Lakeview Elementary School students. A new school year can be scary for some students, and the list of items needed for the new year can be a little overwhelming. But the parents and students of Lakeview didn't have to worry about that this year.
The PTA at the school purchased school supplies and backpacks for every student. That's a total of about 500 students from kindergarten to fourth grade.
Lakeview is one of the district's title one schools and the PTA says these gifts help alleviate some of the stress for the students and their families.
"We do have lots of families who struggle. The economy is bad everybody is struggling. And so it was just a nice thing to be able to say hey you don't have to worry about school supplies. You can get more clothes or you can do whatever you needed to do with the extra that the parents didn't have to spend on school supplies this year," said Stacie McCraw Lakeview PTA President.
McCraw added that they even have school supplies and backpacks for new students who come to Lakeview. The back-to-school gifts were purchased by a couple of fundraisers, three events, and a handful of giving sponsors.
