AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Not since 1963 has the nation seen the decline in the sales of existing homes and even Amarillo is down.
While nationally, July's numbers are down more than 27-percent, Amarillo's are down compared to last July by almost the same amount.
But comparing total sales to last year at this time, Amarillo has seen an increase, which could be due to buying incentives offered earlier in the year, according to President of the Amarillo Association of Realtors, Lisa Harris.
"We had a massive surge in April of people buying that probably would have taken a little more time and maybe bought in the summer that moved it up and ended up being under contract in April."
On the national level, the last three months have been the worst on record for new home sales.
Overall, Amarillo realtors have reported more than 15-hundred sales this year.
