U.S. Congressman Mac Thornberry talks job creation with area businesses.
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Job creation and the economy are hot topics in Washington. Wednesday, we caught up with Congressman Mac Thornberry who was touring businesses in the area. We wanted to know, what's being done to help create jobs locally and reduce unemployment? Currently Amarillo's unemployment numbers have been sitting steady at around 6%, double what it was before the recession. So Pronews 7 asked Congressman Thornberry, what he would like to see done to bring that number down.Thornberry says right now Washington is keeping Americans scared, discouraging job growth with fears of a double dipping recession.
"They're worried about what's coming next what's going to happen when taxes regulation, what the health care bill is going to mean to them and they're very cautious about spending money, about hiring that extra person.", says U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry / (R) Clarendon.
Congressman Thornberry adds it's important that Washington look at small and medium sized businesses and focus on helping them sell their products overseas, easing up on regulations.
"Jobs come from businesses like Amarillo Gear who do their businesses everyday and are able to sell their product at home and overseas and until we focus on the job creators the small and medium size businesses who actually make this economy run we are not going to get this economy going again.", says U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry.
The congressman adds that with his tours to local businesses, he carries a lot of pride in America's working class, saying they are the backbone of the economy and America.
