CANYON, TEXAS -- There's been an increase of car burglaries in Canyon. Police are warning residents to be on the lookout and follow a few simple steps to keep from falling victim. Canyon Police say since May they have seen more of an increase in car burglaries then in years past. They say thieves are focusing on the Hunsley Hills area. Taking electronics or any object that could be valuable. Police say often times people are not locking their vehicles or homes, and need to start.

"What we recommend is making sure they lock their vehicle first and fore most. Second is if you can take any valuables that you may have inside move those either exclude those or take them inside your house.", says Detective Matthew Coggins, Canyon Police Department.

Detective Coggins says no arrest have been made in any burglary cases, but if you have information that would like for you to call them at 655-5005. Meantime, we also wanted to know the number of car burglaries in Amarillo. Police say they generally see 50 or more a week. But for the past few weeks, that number has been down.
