AMARILLO, TEXAS -- It was a step back in time for folks who gathered to look at the B-17 Flying Fortress Saturday at TAC Air. The "Liberty Belle" dates back to World War II. With guns in the nose, tail, sides and bottom of the air craft. The B-17 "Liberty Belle" provides passengers with a lifetime experience to take a step back in time and see first hand what our brave men and women did during WWII. Flight participants received a historical briefing about the significance of the B-17 before taking flight around Amarillo. Veterans and their families gathered around the plane, sharing their stories and taking flights in memory of those they love and those they lost.
"My uncle was a war hero. He was on the "Southern Belle" and he flew well over 50 missions.", says Pat Robertson, who's uncle fought in WWII.
Blaine Hufnagle, a WWII veteran who flew in a plane similar to the B-17 "Liberty Belle" says it was an honor to be able to bring his daughter to see the plane and she couldn't wait to get inside it.
"She was just really anxious to be able to fly in the same airplane that I flew in and she's been really excited and is ready to go.", says Hufnagle.
The Liberty Foundation travels world wide to bring this historical plane to the public, but can only do that with your donations. To find out more about the "liberty Belle" and how you can donate just click on the "Liberty Belle".
