Jeffrey Wilkins arrested on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and an outstanding warrant in Randall County
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A man accused of stealing a car by gunpoint Wednesday morning has been captured.
Amarillo police say it started just before seven a suspect armed with a pistol car jacked a Ford Van from the Wal-Mart at I-40 and Grand.
The suspect described as a Hispanic male took the van and headed east on I-40. Troopers were notified of the vehicle and were given the suspect's description. The stolen vehicle was spotted about 25 minutes later in Carson County.
A DPS trooper pursued the vehicle until a backup officer arrived. The van was then stopped and the suspect was arrested. Jeffrey Wilkins, 28, of Amarillo, was booked into the Carson County jail in Panhandle on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and an outstanding warrant in Randall County. Additional robbery charges are pending. The weapon was never located.
