AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Nine years ago this Saturday hijackers at the controls of three airplanes smashed into the world trade center and the pentagon; A fourth plane crashed in a Pennsylvania field. To remember all the lives lost during September 11th a special tribute honoring those men and women will be held on Saturday morning in front of Amarillo City Hall, and it's not just for police and fire crews.
"We had what I think is the ultimate evil and that is, we had people that were willing to give their lives to kill people they didn't even know, but at the same time in the same place we had the ultimate good and that is, we had people that were willing to give their lives to save people they didn't even know and that's what this ceremony is all about," said Capt. Bob Johnson, from the Amarillo Fire Department.
The ceremony will start at 8:30 a.m. and last 20 minutes. It's a calculated time, representing the times when the two planes hit the twin towers.
Two fire trucks are expected to have their ladders lifted up and form a cross and the Randall High School choir will sing to commemorate the bravery of men and women who risked their lives to save others. When asked if those firefighters would have still climbed up the towers, knowing they would later fall, Capt. Bob Johnson said if he were there, he wouldn't hesitate, because if the firefighters don't climb up, who else would.
