Jose Manuel Vasquez, wanted on 20 cases of aggravated sexual assault of a child
AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - State authorities have tripled the reward for an Amarillo man accused of sex crimes against several young children.
Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger on Friday said the reward for 50-year-old Jose Manuel Vasquez has jumped from $1,000 to $3,000 as the investigation has grown to include more than one child.
Vasquez fled his Amarillo home in July when a relative confronted him about the allegations.
Authorities say the case began when a young woman recently reported that Vasquez sexually assaulted her as a child.
Vasquez, a registered sex offender, is now wanted in connection with 20 cases of aggravated sexual assault of a child, Vinger said.
Investigators say Vasquez could be in the Amarillo or Lubbock area but they don't know for sure.
