AMARILLO, TX -- Martha's Home celebrated the purchase of a new property with a family fun picnic today at Memorial Park.
Martha's Home helps house single mothers in need of safe shelter and support for their children.
The new property will house a four bedroom, three bath home built by the Texas Panhandle Builders Association.
The event also served as a fundraiser to gain additional funds to furnish and support the additional home.
One lucky person with a winning ticket will get an 18 foot car hauler courtesy of the High Plains Thunderbirds - all proceeds from that will go to Marthas Home as well.
"We have a huge waiting list of mothers with children looking for shelter -- I've had over a hundred calls just since January, and it just happened that the home owner on the block where our other shelters are located put his home up for sale in January and we were able to purchase that home with help from our donors," said Connie Garcia," Martha's Home Executive Director.
The organization says it plans to have an open house celebration in six to eight weeks from now.
