AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Great news for this year's cotton harvest. It could be a banner year, that is if Mother Nature cooperates. Cotton needs two things, moisture and heat. With July turning out to be a wet month and August extremely hot at times, this year's harvest could be a record breaker. However, we're told harvesting doesn't happen until mid-October through November. So farmers are praying the weather stays just right for one more month.
"All the potential heat we can get and maybe minimal in terms of moisture conditions to really top of this potential great cotton crop we have out there for the growing season.", says J.D. Ragland with Texas ArgiLife Extension.
But the Plains Cotton Growers say, don't be surprised to see cotton being harvested and ginned by the end of this month.
