Flames from Bushland pipeline explosion
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- We've received some new information regarding the lawsuit against El Paso Natural Gas, stemming from the Bushland pipeline explosion. Kevin Glasheen, the Lubbock Attorney representing the Torres family, some of whom were injured in that blast, told us the parties met for mediation this week. However an out of court agreement was not reached, and they are still preparing for a May court date.
The teenage daughter who was severely burned in the explosion, is back in school, but she still face 5-10 surgeries.
We also spoke with an El Paso Natural Gas official, they had no comment on the situation.
On November 5, 2009, a little after 1 a.m., a 24-inch gas line exploded in the Prairie West division in Bushland about a mile from the high school. Firefighters fought up to 700 foot flames, and spent about two hours just trying to get the blaze under control. The fire was under control by 5:30 a.m., three people were injured including the Torres girl, who was severely burned.
