CANYON, TEXAS -- The biggest and most successful fundraiser for the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation took place on Saturday at the Rivers Falls Ranch. The day started with a cookout where folks could enjoy hamburgers and get acquainted before the trail ride started.
"I enjoy the companionship the opportunity to meet people of the area and be around good horsemen," said David Cooper, Trail Boss.
River Falls Ranch and Palo Duro Canyon served as the background for the Rider on the Rim Trail Ride which raises funds for the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation.
TPHF is a non-profit organization who's mission is to increase tourism at Palo Duro Canyon State Park along with preserving and recreating history through the play "Texas".
"We don't have a steady stream of revenue so this fundraiser is to help with the operating cost through the winter months until we open again in June," said Doris Alexander-Cooper, Chairman and Founder of the Trail Ride.
This is the 3rd year for the ride, which was the vision of Alexander-Cooper.
"I like to tie a fundraiser into the entity it benefits. I know that the heart people do walks, and the other organizations have motorcycles rides or they have bicycle rides so I though why not horse for Texas," said Alexander-Cooper.
The ride is such a success, people from as far away as Forth Worth come to participate. Mayor Debra McCartt also participated. She lead the pack of about 70 people through the Canyon. The ride wrapped up with a social hour back at River Falls Ranch where dinner was served and guest enjoyed an auction, as well as, live music and dancing.
