AMARILLO, TX -- Last year, Amarillo police investigated more than 6,400 traffic accidents and they're trying to help motorists understand when and if they should be called in to help.

Police say it's better to be safe than sorry, and go ahead and call them to see if a report can or should be filled out and if any citations should be issued.

If two or more cars are involved, there's noticeable damage or a law's been broken, they say to call so they can assist drivers.

"We can still issue a citation and we will and some people don't like that, well, they just exchanged information and they don't know if we'll issue a citation or not. if we're called out and can prove who's at fault, we will issue a citation," according to APD Spokesperson, Corporal Jerry Neufeld.

Neufeld adds that you can buy reports for $6 at the department's front counter or you can download them online for $9.
