AMARILLO, TEXAS -- It's a community youth development program that's helping at-risk kids stay out of trouble. It's called, "YES 79107". It's a program that's been in the zip code since 1996, under the leadership of the Amarillo Area Foundation, but now it's under the United Way. The purpose of the program, to give juvenile delinquents a positive place to go after school and encourage them to reach for their dreams.

"They find that there is this awesome staff that believes in them and they begin to see their own talents they had the talent, but now they begin to find it and they begin to discover and they're out there just making it expand," said Mary Jane Nelson, YES 79107 Program Director.

Nelson says four organizations participant in the program, The Girl ScoutsBig Brothers Big SistersFamily and Schools Together(Family Support Services), and the North YMCA branch. Kids ages 10-17 who live in the 79107 zip code qualify for the program. You can contact any of the organizations or the United Way by going to their websites attached.
