IRVING, Texas (AP) - Rising crude oil prices are being cited as a factor in a jump in retail gasoline prices in Texas and across the nation this week.
The weekly AAA Texas price survey released Thursday said the average price of a gallon of unleaded regular rose by 8 cents across Texas to $2.63. The national average jumped 7 cents, to $2.76, still well above the state's average.
The auto club said the market is responding to investor activity in oil prices. Crude oil that was in the $76-a-barrel range in late September is slightly below $83 a barrel now.
The cheapest average gasoline prices in Texas are in Houston and Galveston at $2.58, both are 7 cents more than last week. The most expensive gas is in Amarillo at $2.72, a nickel more than last week.
In Amarillo the cheapest gas according to TexasGasPrices.com can be found at Murphy USA, at the Walmart off I-27 and Georgia for $2.61.
