AMARILLO, TEXAS -- COPPS officers found the man they believe was involved in Wednesday's chase. Friday afternoon officers were following up on leads to the location of the driver from that chase, and arrived at an apartment complex at 2727 S. Virginia. They checked an apartment and located Billy Andrew Byrd, 33, of Amarillo.

Byrd was arrested for an outstanding parole violation warrant. Police believe that he was the driver of the stolen vehicle and eluded police on Wednesday. Byrd was booked into the Randall County Jail on the parole warrant. Additional charges are pending.

On Wednesday around noon, COPPS officers spotted a stolen Ford pickup in a parking lot near 11th and S. Grand. As police were getting in place to set up surveillance, 3 men got in the pickup and left. Officers began a pursuit, but quickly called it off, due to the high rate of speed through a residential area.

A short time later, some people told police that two men had jumped out of the truck and were on foot in the neighborhood. Both men were apprehended, one was later released, and the other Rosalio Jeremiah Chacon, 30, was arrested for evading arrest.

Officers then received word that the stolen pickup was involved in a wreck at 3rd and S. Grand. The vehicle was traveling against traffic through road construction, when it clipped two cars that were stopped in traffic. The pickup then turned onto SE 3rd, and hit a pickup. The suspect continued going west on 3rd, but was followed by a person who was trying to get a tag number. The suspect vehicle rammed the witnesses' car forcing it off the road and into a light pole. Luckily, there were no injuries in any of the wrecks.

A short time later, witnesses reported seeing the stolen pickup abandoned near 12th and Seminole, and the driver was seen getting into another vehicle.
