AMARILLO, TX -- The Amarillo Youth Choirs gave their first concert of the season today at the Globe-News Center for Performing Arts with performances to well known classical favorites.
The organization consists of four choirs -- two made up of girls and two made up of boys.
All together there are about 200 voices singing and membership is by audition only.
The organizer says this group is a promising look for the future of arts in the Amarillo area.
"Anyone who has studied music does very well in their aptitude test. Studies have shown that out of all those students who make either the all-state choir, the all-state orchestra or the all- state band score higher on their aptitude tests," said Katrina Perales, Amarillo Youth Choirs Executive Director.
Some of the classical favorites include excerpts from composers like Franz Schubert and George Handel.
The next concert will be in December.
