ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO (AP) -- ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - With just over two weeks left until Election Day, New Mexico's gubernatorial candidates are using their first televised debate to woo any voters who have yet to make up their minds.
Democratic Lt. Gov. Diane Denish and Republican Susana Martinez appeared Sunday night on Albuquerque television station KOAT. They talked about government spending, the sputtering economy and education.
Denish went on the offensive early, calling Martinez a liar and accusing her of siding with big corporations
Martinez argued that she fights for children and families in her community as Dona Ana County district attorney and would do the same as governor.
Martinez also attacked Denish. As the No. 2 official in the state, Martinez said Denish had eight years to come up with ways for cutting government waste, fighting corruption and improving education.
