AMARILLO, TEXAS -- It's been an issue for residents in the Wolflin area for over a year. The 4-way stops at 2 different intersections and it was the center of some heated discussion Tuesday. Currently, there's a 4-way stop at 32nd and Hayden, and a yield sign on 33rd. There's also a 4-way stop at 32nd and Ong. Some residents in that area would like to see the signs stay, others want to see them go. And they spoke out at Tuesday's city commission meeting.

"The safety of our children is the reason why we are here," said a resident who is for the signs. "There are other ways I think, there's round abouts, parks, you know there's got to be another way to slow traffic down," said one resident who wants the signs to go.

During the meeting those who are concerned for the safety of their children even brought them to the meeting. But after all was said and done, city commissioners debated the issue and voted 4 in favor and 1 against to leave all the stop signs and change the yield sign. "The decision was made to leave the 2 4-way stop sign intersections at 32nd and Ong and 32nd and Hayden as they are. The yield sign that's at 33rd as it approaches 32nd will be changed to a stop sign," said Jim Simms, City Commissioner. It was decision city commissioners say was an easy one to make. "If the neighbors want the stop signs in the name of safety for their children am going to vote for it every time," said Simms. There is one eyesore about these stop signs residents can agree on. The sign at 32nd and Hayden is out in the street. The city commission voted to have it placed on a curb, and have the trees around it trimmed.
