AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Harrington Cancer Center needs your help to win funds from the Livestrong Foundation.
Harrington has applied for funds to implement two programs to support those fighting cancer. The center has been selected to advance to the final stage, which is community voting. The applicant with the most votes will receive the funding.
Voting is open until October 29th. Show your support and vote by clicking here.
If the center wins the application, it hopes to further its Creative Center's Artists-in-Residence, which offers patients the opportunity to learn about and become absorbed in their own creative ability as they face the challenges of diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.
The program will work bedside and in small group settings with men, women and children in oncology in several different units. This type of outlet would provide the patients with a brief escape for their emotional health, while also creating a sense of control by mastering a creative task. Beth Kean a licensed professional counselor and registered art therapist, will be the facilitator.
The Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center is a non-profit, ambulatory, center that serves patients from rural, underserved communities of the Texas panhandle and four bordering states. The center provides outpatient chemo/radiation therapy, diagnostic testing, physician services, education, research and supportive care services.
