AMARILLO, TEXAS -- If you surf on free wi-fi hotspots or don't use a secure internet setting, you may get hacked by a new program that's one of the hottest topics being downloaded from search engines.

It's called Firesheep, and if you're on an unsecured site, a hacker can get on whatever site you're viewing and take control.

While it won't work on encrypted sites, everything else is fair game, and it's reportedly being offered up as a warning to just how easy hacking can be.

Jeremy Hollis, with Cat-Man-Du Computers says "The developer developed this program, basically to make people aware that this is happening and it's very easy to do. Unfortunately, it's a double edged sword because now everybody's going to be downloading it and they can do it themselves because it's going to be very widespread."

To protect yourself, make sure you're using a secure SSL line or that your website URL begins with HTTPS.
