AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Have you noticed an increase in the number of products being recalled these days?
Just about everything that is up for sale is soon followed with some reason to take it back.
There may be a couple of reasons for all the returns, but the focus should also be on consumers being wary shoppers.
From Nissan's and BMW's this week to the recent recall disaster at Toyota earlier this year;cars to cribs, and just about everything in between is later deemed unsafe.
Dr. Nick Gurlich at WTAMU says it's part globalization and more items being made overseas to be sold here.
"I think in many cases they don't fully understand all of our regulations and I think in the absence of strict regulations, the producing country, a lot of turns into anything goes...makes it very difficult for us to master high levels of quality."
Dr. Gurlich added websites like recalls.gov and recalls.org are great places to start consumer research before you buy.
You can find all recent consumer recalls on U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's website as well.
