AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo College hosted a New York Times Best-Selling Author Thursday, James Bradley. He wrote the acclaimed "Flags of our Fathers." The book is a look at the stories behind one of the most famous war photographs ever taken.
His father, John Bradley, was one of six men who became famous for being photographed raising the American flag. The novel tells the story of five U.S. Marines and his dad, a Navy corpsman. The photo has become a symbol of heroism, but Bradley says it's the human stories behind the book that resonate so much with people.
"I sought to find out why didn't my dad talk about Iwo Jima. i found the answer, I think, part of it was what it was like to come back from a massacre, where you lost your best friends and to be called a hero for a photograph that he didn't ever know was taken," said James Bradley, Author, "Flags of Our Fathers."
The photograph is, according to Bradley, the most reproduced photograph of all time. The book is dedicated the six mothers of the men.
