AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Austin is being wooed to buy more power from the South Texas Project nuclear plant.
Project majority owner NRG Texas says it will send a formal proposal to Austin within a few weeks.
The Austin American-Statesman reported, for its Friday editions, that the updated plan is meant to resolve cost questions that led city officials to reject previous offers.
The pitch comes as Austin embarks on a plan to aggressively invest in wind, solar and other renewable sources of energy.
NRG executive Juan Garza has been meeting with city council members and says the key is how much Austin wants to reduce its carbon footprint.
Austin is a part owner of the nuclear plant, located 90 miles southwest of Houston, near Bay City. ---
