Wal-Mart and High Plains Food Bank team up
High Plains Food Bank sets up food drop-off bins in Wal-Mart stores
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The biggest retailer in the world is helping out with one of the biggest problems in our area, feeding those in need.
Wal-Mart and the High Plains Food Bank are teaming up to help fight hunger.
For the next week, Wal-Mart is offering food drop-off bins at the front of their stores where people can either drop off food on their way in or out, as a way to offset hunger in the upcoming holiday season.
Zack Wilson, Executive Director with the High Plains Food Bank said, "Not only come to Wal-Mart to drop off food, but if you gave 5 items last year, maybe give 10 this year. We need you to double or more than you [have] in previous years to really help us out this year."
New figures just released today show that more than 17 percent of all households in the Lone Star State are designated "at-risk" when it comes to hunger.
