AMARILLO, TEXAS -- An officer with the Amarillo Police Department who was involved in a car accident was not wearing his seat belt. The officer was working radar in the 1900 block of I-40 east and observed a speeding car.  The officer started to pursue the car, which exited on Grand.
As the officer entered the exit ramp, he lost control of his patrol car and started to slide, the vehicle then slid across the median and frontage road before hitting a utility pole.  The officer was ejected from his car and taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he has since been released.

At this time, the department believes the officer was not wearing his seat belt.

Pronews 7 is told an internal investigation into the accident will be conducted and that discipline action is possible.
