OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Billionaire energy magnate T. Boone Pickens isn't optimistic that Congress will act this year on a proposal to spur the use of natural gas as a vehicle fuel in the U.S.
In September, Pickens had said he remained hopeful that Congress would pass what is known as the NAT GAS Act by the end of the year. Among the measure's goals is to subsidize the conversion of long-haul trucks so that they would run on compressed natural gas.
But speaking Tuesday at the Creativity World Forum in Oklahoma City, Pickens said he now thinks any vote on the measure will come next year.
The Oklahoman reports Pickens and other panelists all touted the potential of natural gas as a fuel that could help the U.S. wean itself from reliance on foreign oil.
