CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - Curry County commissioners are supporting low-altitude training flights from nearby Cannon Air Force Base into northern New Mexico and southern Colorado.
The training from the eastern New Mexico base would involve C-130 and CV-22 aircraft flying as low as 200 feet above the ground.
Curry County Commissioner Caleb Chandler says the least the commission can do is support the training.
He says it's unfortunate some people in New Mexico have not taken the same position.
The proposal has sparked opposition from people who fear the flights could disrupt wildlife and ranching.
Several other county commissions and town councils in New Mexico have passed resolutions opposing the plan.
Commissioners in other counties have passed resolutions supporting the flights.
