AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Budget cuts for schools could mean less money for your students. School districts could expect to be an estimated $3 to $5 billion dollars short in next year's budget as lawmakers wrestle with a $24 billion dollar shortfall.
Canyon ISD tells us there are a lot of numbers being thrown around and it's watching them all very carefully. "We are definitely brain-storming internally. we are looking at all of our numbers and doing some number crunching, but at this point there's no way to say exactly what are or what program would be cut because we don't know how much we are going to be reduced in our budget and so we want to make sure that we have all that information before we actually start discussing what will be cut," said Christy Bertolino, the Canyon ISD Communications Coordinator.
Bertolino said Canyon ISD has budgeted conservatively in the past and it could be until May before the district gets the final numbers.
