Sipapu, Taos ski areas announce openings

SANTA FE (AP) -- Skiers can take to the slopes in New Mexico starting this weekend. Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort in northern New Mexico is opening Saturday.

Taos Ski Valley has announced it will start operations on Thanksgiving with two runs, Powderhorn and Whitefeather, along with beginner's terrain. Lift tickets at Taos will be discounted to $48 a day for adults from opening day through Dec. 17. Sipapu is about 20 miles southeast of the city of Taos. The ski area will be open from Saturday through Nov. 28, and then will reopen for the weekend of Dec. 4-5. It plans to start daily operations on Dec. 10.

Early season lift tickets at Sipapu are $20 a day for adults.
