SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Gov. Bill Richardson's administration is cutting a program serving about 3,700 developmentally disabled.
The Health Department announced Friday that reductions of more than $5 million will start Jan. 1 because of a drop in federal matching money.
Provider rates will be cut 5 percent. There will be an 8 percent reduction in yearly allocations to recipients, who are able to decide what services they want within their individual budget.
Health Secretary Alfredo Vigil said the state won't be able to serve more than 5,100 people on a waiting list.
New Mexico spends $60 million and the federal government provides more than $240 million for the services provided as an optional Medicaid program.
