AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The City of Amarillo has a new city manager.
Commissioners announced this afternoon that Jarrett Atkinson will take the position.
Atkinson, who was serving as the interim manager, joined the City of Amarillo in November 2004 as the assistant city manager.
He will now begin his new duties effective immediately.
"I would really like to continue to open up our communications with the public, be sure that we're getting the message out proactively -- who we are, what we're doing, and I want that to work in both directions. I would like to make it easier for folks to get back to us," said Jarrett Atkinson, Amarillo City Manager.
This is his plan for open communication.
"We'll begin looking into different programs that I've seen that have been successful in other places. We'll be taking the advice of the senior staff and of the commission and try to build something uniquely Amarillo that will help us all,"
Atkinson is a graduate of Amarillo High School and he later went on to pursue a Bachelors of Science from Sam Houston State University.
He later received his masters at Texas Tech University in public administration .
