AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo Mayor Debra Mccartt called on people all over the city to come to an open hearing at city hall to discuss a new set of urban design standards.
And a lot of people answered her call. more than 100 citizens who were eager to voice their opinion showed up.
And both sides were represented in healthy numbers. One man says that the new design standards are simply a way to help downtown.
"I think having the urban design standards will help preserve the area and having some minimum standards is a good thing for downtown," said Howard Smith a supporter the Urban Design Standards.
But there were many others who argued against the idea. They believe the standards are only going to raise their property taxes.
After all the comments, the meeting adjourned without a decision. Commissioners will do that at a future meeting.
