AMARILLO, TX -- More that 20 daring people took a dip in icy cold water today for the "Polar Plunge" including ProNews 7 own morning anchor, Meredith Keller.
It's all in an effort to raise money for Special Olympic athletes , and all the funds raised will provide year-round sports training and competitions
"We've got over 375 athletes that compete year round. We have people who are coaches that are volunteers, we have people who are chaperons that are volunteers, and they do it all for these athletes to make sure every year they have something available for them," said Lisa Chrane, Special Olympics Panhandle Area Director.
One plunger, who also happens to be the individual who raised the most money, recalls the plunge from last year.
"I just came to jump and then get out as soon as I could because last year I swam across the whole pool and I was like I'm not doing that again," said Mikey Webb, Polar Plunge Participant.
This is the second year that Amarillo has hosted a Polar Plunge, and Chrane says they hope to reach their goal of $4,500.
Various awards were given to individuals and groups who raised the most money, and even for the individual who made the best splash -- which happened to be our own Matt Hamilton.
