CANYON, TEXAS -- 100 kids in Canyon Saturday also got an early start to Christmas. It's part of "Shop with a Cop". Disadvantage kids in the Canyon ISD system spent the morning shopping at Wal-Mart with those from the Randall County Sheriff's office, Fire Department, and Canyon Police and Fire Departments. Wal-Mart give the county as $5,000 grant for the kids to come spend $50 on anything of their choice. Mickey and Minnie as well as Sponge Bob were on hand to help as well. Those with the county says it's a great chance for them to have a positive interaction with the kids.
"What it does is it just gives us a positive interaction with the kids and we're not always seeing these kids in the most positive light and this gives us a chance to be with them, try to build some kind of relationship with some of these kids," said Joel Richardson, Randall Co. Sheriff.
At the end of the shopping frenzy, kids were given goodies from the big man himself, Santa Claus.
