AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A big item up for approval for Amarillo City Commissioners today was something that was first discussed months ago.
The city will focus on improving the upper and lower level driveways at Rick Husband International Airport.
It will also eliminate the checkpoint where they inspect your car. There will be a new cell phone lot for people to wait on arrivals, which means no more parking in front of the terminal doors.
"The reason being is when we get rid of the inspection point we'll no longer be able to allow ten minute parking so it will be an active loading and unloading, You'll be able to drive up to the front doors but you'll have to get your bags out and then move the vehicle," said Pat Rhodes, Deputy Director of Aviation.
City Manager Jarrett Atkinson said the city plans to start construction once the holidays are over.
