AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Texas Department of Transportation announced the traffic cameras located across the website have a new home.

The cameras are especially helpful when snow moves into the area. TxDOT said they can help motorists gain a better understanding of weather conditions. The cameras work by taking snapshots every three to four seconds, giving the viewer a good idea of actual road and weather conditions. The cameras have been in place since 2004.

Storm Search 7 Chief Meteorologist Steve Kersh, said the upper-level storm system is in Arizona and headed our way. Snowfall is expected to increase and be the heaviest between midnight and noon Friday.

Unfortunately, the worst driving conditions are expected to occur around the morning drive Friday when everybody is headed to work and school. The heaviest snowfall is expected to fall between Dalhart and Canadian with upwards of 6-12 inches.

Amarillo and Canyon are expected to get 2-6 inches of snow before it tapers off Friday afternoon and ends Friday evening.

As always, stay tuned to Storm Search 7 for the latest on this winter weather storm system.
