AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Two drug runners who were busted in the Texas Panhandle are heading to jail.
U.S. District Judge Mary Lou Robinson sentenced the pair Tuesday afternoon. Cynthia Lynn Ortega, 43, and Daniel Alan Wasyl, 46, were both found guilty of one count of conspiracy to distribute a drug and one count of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.
Troopers stopped the pair in May for a traffic violation near Panhandle, Texas, during the stop the troopers became suspicious and asked to search the car. A hidden compartment mounted near the back seat of the truck was found. Troopers found cocaine and cocaine base, also known as crack cocaine, hidden inside the compartment. According to court documents, the drugs were being taken from Phoenix to Oklahoma City.
Judge Robinson sentenced Ortega to 10 years in prison, Wasyl was given just over 14 years in jail.
