AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Pantex does a lot for our local economy by putting money into our small businesses. The plant announced Tuesday that it has also helped bring millions into our economy, by helping businesses through its own projects. The news from Pantex was that it has spent over $121 million on equipment and contracting services this year. $95 million of that went to small businesses across the nation. But more than $34 million went directly into Amarillo's economy, and that exceeded Pantex's goal by 17%.
"We're all about community involvement and supporting Amarillo because they're so supportive of us, and we're just really pleased of the results in 2010," said Brad Brack, Small Business Program Manager at Pantex.
One of the small businesses that benefited was Tri-State General Contracting.
"The folks at Pantex have given us a wonderful opportunity to perform for them over the last several years. They've given us lots of opportunities on lots of construction contracts that we've performed on and it's just been a real real positive thing for us," said Jerry Reynosa, Tri-State General Contracting President.
"In support of community involvement we want as much work and dollars from contracts we issue here to go to local vendors. That's good not only for the Amarillo but Texas Panhandle," said Brack.
"Small businesses, the mom and pop shops from around the country, they are the life blood of America commerce and we recognize that here at Pantex," adds Brack.
Tri-State General Contracting has been recognized and honored by the National Nuclear Security Administration for the work it's done at the Pantex plant.
