AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The local Tea Party is hosting a petition signing event this week to send a message to elected officials that current Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus, isn't the conservative choice.
They point to more conservative members, like Representative Warren Chisum of Pampa who's announced he wants the job too.
They're hoping to gather up 500 signatures against Straus from both Randall and Potter counties to present to Representatives John Smithee and Four Price.
"That they'll have an idea that the 500 signature petition represents a significant amount of their constituents and what our view point is on that issue," said Jodi Maner, President of the Amarillo Tea Party Patriots.
In response, District 87 Representative-Elect Four Price said, "I will evaluate constantly every piece of information and I will make the best decision for the folks in District 87 that I think protects all our interests when the time comes."
While 86th District Representative John Smithee added, "I'll weigh it and frankly, I'd rather meet with them than read their petition...I'd rather sit down and talk to them and see what they have to say."
The petition drive is set up for Thursday night from 6:30 to 8:45 at the Southwest library and they ask you bring your voter card or registration number with you.
