A strong winter storm is moving into New Mexico. The storm is creating dangerous driving conditions on I-40. Slick roads, winds, and snow fall throughout Thursday have played a role in several crashes.
If you are planning on heading west, call ahead and check the road conditions in New Mexico by calling the following number 1-800-432-4269.
A high wind warning is in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday for areas that include Alamogordo, Deming, Las Cruces, Lordsburg and Truth or Consequences.
The National Weather Service is predicting southwest to west winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 60 mph.
It says wind gusts of up to 75 mph are possible along the eastern slopes.
Blowing dust will lower visibilities to less than a half-mile over the lowlands, especially portions of Interstate 10 and 25 from El Paso, Texas, to the Las Cruces, Hatch, Deming and Lordsburg areas in New Mexico.
